Discovering & Evaluating Titles for Inclusion in Library Indigenous Collections

The presenters of this talk, children’s selection librarians at the Vancouver Public Library, will discuss how they discover and evaluate new titles for possible inclusion in the Library’s Indigenous collection. They will also provide general information about the collection, and highlight some of the exceptional Indigenous titles for 2022.

Presenters Bio’s

Lisa Gilmore

Since starting with the Vancouver Public Library in 2006 Lisa has worked in many departments. She is currently a member of the Selections Team, where she selects the juvenile nonfiction and teen fiction / nonfiction titles, in addition to selecting titles in some adult nonfiction subject areas. Lisa serves on VPL’s Reconciliation Working Group, which connects VPL staff with resources and support around reconciliation at VPL, and beyond.

Bronwen Sprout

Bronwen has been a librarian on the Selections Team in the Collections & Technical Services department at the Vancouver Public Library for 8 years, where she is responsible for ordering children’s fiction in all formats. She previously worked as a Children’s Librarian at the Vancouver Public Library for 12 years.
