Libraries and Telehealth: An Opportunity for Service
As the COVID era demonstrates, telehealth – the provision of health services over a computer connection or phone line – holds promise for increasing access to and reducing costs of healthcare. However, many people in Utah and elsewhere lack broadband access, private space or digital literacy skills necessary to benefit from telehealth. Libraries are well positioned to step into the gap and provide telehealth access for those encountering such challenges. This session will present research on models for library access to telehealth services used around the country and discuss some of the common questions that come up from libraries interested in the subject. It will offer resources, training and networking opportunities available from state, regional and national organizations to prepare staff for supporting telehealth, including courses that can help with making decisions about telehealth and prepare digital navigators for working with library patrons.
Learning objectives:
Define telehealth and outline key issues it addresses.
Recognize models for library telehealth access currently in use.
Identify resources and opportunities for networking and training on telehealth.
