Self-Compassion for Helping Professionals
Presented by Jessa Galloway with McKinney Psychology, this session on self-compassion is an opportunity to discuss our own practices as they help us maintain our mental health while we engage in challenging jobs and are often self-critical. Even though many professional helpers are compassionate and empathetic, we may not practice these skills with ourselves. Being mindful of self-compassionate helps to insulate us from vicarious traumatization, burnout and more. Ultimately this helps us to continue to be giving professionals and allows us to stay in helping professions longer.
This session will discuss the elements of self-compassion, and addresses techniques and strategies to increase our own practices of self-compassion. Whether you’re in a helping career or not, learning self-compassion techniques can greatly benefit your mental health and can be used as a form of self-care.
