Social Constructivism - What Is It, How to Apply It
Social Constructivism is an approach to learning that recognizes the collaborative nature of learning. Students rely on each other to help them get started and create their own models of knowledge and reality. This presentation will outline the elements of social constructivism and model how it can be applied in an online learning setting.

A well-known author, speaker and technologist, Stephen Downes has contributed a series of innovations to the online learning community over a 35 year career developing internet technologies for online learning and new media technologies, including open education resources (OER), massive open online courses (MOOC), and personal learning environments (PLE). Recent publications include 'Ethics, Analytics and the Duty of Care' and 'Three Frameworks for Data Literacy'.
