Open Pedagogy and the Contemporary Issues in Collection Management
This session will examine how principles of open pedagogy can be used in the classroom to move from disposable assignments to the creation of open educational resources (OER). In section of a Collection Management class at the University of Alberta from Fall 2022, student assignments were redesigned to move from simply assessing student knowledge to facilitate work in the subsequent year that allowed the creation of an openly licensed textbook, Contemporary Issues in Collection Management (https://openeducationalberta.ca/ciicm/).
The session will explore how open pedagogy was applied both in the course and follow, and include comments from both the instructor and several students/contributors to the book. Through critical reflections on the process, session attendees will have a better understanding of how open pedagogy could be applied in other instructional contexts.
