Risk Assessment and Crisis Counselling

Presented by Melissa Spaetgens with McKinney Psychology, this session is intended for Health Professionals, Educators, Social Workers, Family Members, Coaches, Mentors, Elders and any anyone interested in the basics of learning how to conduct a risk assessment and Crisis Counselling. 

Presenter:

Melissa Spaetgens, B.Sc., MBA (Fin) - Melissa is in the final stages of her Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University.  She is currently participating in a counselling internship at  McKinney Psychology, located in central Alberta.  McKinney Psychology supports rural, remote, and Indigenous Communities across Alberta and NWT. 

Melissa is married with a 9 year-old son. She has worked for over 20 years at Canadian Pacific Railway in risk assessment related to the shipment of hazardous chemicals and had recently chosen to pursue a late in life career change to become a Psychologist. While working full time and as a counselling intern Melissa also volunteers as a crisis text responder with Kids Help Phone. Kids Help Phone provides specialized training to their volunteers pertaining to suicide risk assessment and helping adolescents and youth move from a hot moment to a cool calm.
