"I Could See Him Clearly Through My Eyelids":
Dealing With Ghost Sightings in Sociology
In 2017 and 2018, Dr. David Aveline travelled across Canada interviewing people who believe they have seen ghosts. He interviewed 38 people in depth who related their experiences with more than 200 ghosts. Some claimed to have seen a ghost only once; others had seen them all of their lives. This presentation will begin with a description of the types of ghost experiences people have, and end with some reflections of the difficulties a sociologist might have when interviewing people who report events that defy reality.
